Mission:
Peregrine Performance Project is an artistic project engaging a broad community with thoughtful theatrical performances focused on the ideas central to the history of the Christian faith.
Why ?
In its 2000 year history the Christian Church has been a part of creating some of the most important works of philosophy, theology, science, and art. We think one of the gifts God has given us is this rich history, full of ups and downs, as messy and as varied as any other, of books, stories, creeds, essays, commentaries, articles, etc., that we have to enlighten and assist us in our Christian walk. Our community and family of faith extend well beyond our choice of church and our circle of friends. Christ calls us to love one another, and our hope is to uncover and share the deep history of our faith sharing in the expressions of love throughout the centuries.
Theatre?
There is a long history in the Christian church of story telling. Jesus told his disciples stories and the early Christians told each other stories. They shared with each other the power of the Kingdom of God. This was something new, not of this world, and they were a part of what God was doing in their world. They told of what God had done through Christ, how they were set free from the bondages of their present situations, and how God had become man and reconciled the world to Himself. They talked about what that meant and how they would live their lives following Christ's example.
Story is at the heart of who we are as Christians. Peregrine Performance Project was started to revisit this aspect of the church, to encourage and inspire God's people with dramatic performances of ancient stories and forgotten texts. One of the biggest challenges for every generation of Christians is to avoid being caught up in the present age and culture. One of the most powerful tools we have to avoid cultural captivity is to reach backward into our history.
Our productions are dramatized versions of Christian texts, and stories of historical significance that connect us to our past.
